at present carried on to a great extent. The traffic of such a people advances
with great strides and skilful discernment. We may see in their lahours that
the Scots are now a people knowing in the sciences, and dexterous in the arts;
and we may perceive, as hath been before remarked, that they are a people,
during their present fortunes, who advance in everything which can enrich a
spirited, and elevate an active nation.
