The epidemic has also extended southwards into the Karnatak and a considerable number of cases have occurred in Belgaum district. The outbreak in Satara district has been of exceptional virulence and has extended over a large number of towns and villages. In November over 4,500 cases were reported, a figure which was not approached by any district during the first period of the epidemic. Outside the City of Bombay the month of December showed a general improvement in the places most affected.
