Confraternity from the
Vicar General of the Minorites that
he his Wife and Children should be participant of their hail
Prayers, Suffrages and Divine Services of all that Order not
only in Scotland, but of all others dispersed through
Christen-
dom, and not only of the Brethren of St. Francis called Gray
Friars, but of the Sisters of St. Clara, Dated at St. Andrews
20th Aprile 1504. This Sir Thomas Maule was Sheriff
Depute
of Forfar under Andrew Lord Gray the Sheriff Principal, as is
clear by a Service and Retour led before them in the Tolbooth
of Forfar upon the 10th of January 1511 whereby
Robert
Strathachin of Balwissy was served Heir to Christian Gordon
his Mother in the Fourth Part Lands of Balmachie and Barn-
yairds lying in the Barony of Panbryde and Sheriffdom of
Forfar. The Retour is authentick and is the Principal, now
in my Possession; And it affords this Observation. That it
bears, Hæc Inquisitio facta fuit etc. coram nobili et potenti
Domino Andreâ Domino le Gray Vicecomite de Forfar et
Domino Thomâ Maule de Panmoore Milite Vicecomite Depu-
tato de Forfar conjunctim et divisim. The Inquest was very
honourable, and consists of very considerable Gentlemen in
the Shire at that Time. Alexander Strachan Laird of Car-
mylie gave to this Sir Thomas and his Heirs his Bond of
Manrent to ryde or gang with him when charged thereto, and
became his Man both in Household and outwith Household
on his own Expences under the Pain of his losing his hail
Lands
of Carmylie. The date is 9 February 1508. His Wife Eliza-
beth Rollock bare to him Two Sons Robert and William
Maules, and Three Daughters Elizabeth, Margaret and
Maules.

AFTER Elizabeth Rollock's
Death this Sir Thomas Maule
married Grahame Sister to the Earl of Montrose, and
at that Time Relict to
Haldan of Glenegles. But she
had no Children to him, and
at his Death lived a while in the
Barnes of Panmore, and after returned to Glenegles, and long
outlived her Husband who being with King James 4th
in
England Anno 1513 would not leave the King albeit Carmylie
left him, and came Home. But Sir Alexander Guthrie, Pan-
lathan, Balwissey and John Carnegy of Kinnaird stayed with
him; And Sir Thomas being a fat grown Man could not draw
