In 1888-89 the number of
seizures was abnormally high, the aggregate quantity of ganja
weighing as much as 17,753 tolas, and may be accounted for by the
influx of a large body of
native (Punjabi and Madrassi) troops consequent on the annexation
of Upper Burma.
The following statement
shows the seizures of ganja during the last five years, also
during
the first eight months of 1893-94:—
