Auguſtin

is really and ſubſtancially preſent in the ſacrament
of the Euchariſt. His ſecund word is this: Calix
enedictionis cui benedicimus, nonne communi-
catio ſanguinis Chriſti eſt? Et panis quem frangi-
mus, nonne participatio corporis domini eſt?
The cupe of thankis geuing, quhair with we geue
hankis. Is it nocht the partaking of the blud of
Chriſt The breid that we brek on the altare, Is it
nocht the parttaking of the body of Chriſt In thir
wordis ſanct Paul teichis plainly yat quhenſaeuir
the ſacrament of the Altare is proponit and geuin
to us, the uerrai bodye and blud of our ſaluiour is
proponit & geuin to us under the formes of breid
and wyne, and ſa aucht every ilk chriſtin man and
woman to beleve.
It is nocht facil or eaſye to declare ſufficiently,
quhow mony, quhow merualous, quhow excellent
and profitabil fruitis we may opteine be dew reſſa-
uing of this precious ſacrament. Our redem r &
ſaluiour luffit us ſa ardently that he thocht it nocht
ſufficient to geue him ſelf to the dede of ye croſſe for
our redemptioun, bot alſo to declare to us mair ſpe
cially the ſame lufe, he hes geuin him ſelf to be our
ſpecial fude and refectioun, according as he ſais:
Caro mea yere eſt cibus, et ſanguis meus vere eſt
potus. My fleſche is zour verrai fude, & my blud
is zour verrai drink. Quhairfor deſire we meit and
drink, bot to keip us fra the paynis of hungir and
thrift, and to hald us in our corporal lyfe ſa lang
as we may Than mekil mair we aucht to deſyre
this precious fude, quhilk in this preſent warld
                                                                    baldis
