      A NEW SPEECH FOR

      OLD GUY FAWKES.

I pray you kind friends, to make us amends
For the trouble we take for your joy,
And assist us with means, to destroy as beseems,
This figure we've made of Old Gnye.

On the 5th, of November, we all should remember,
When the King and the Parliament met,
That Guy Fawkes so bold, who was bir'd for gold,
Tried to blow them all up as they sat.

Then they powder got which was brought to the spot,
And d in the cellars below,
But he who foresees the traitor's decrees,
By his mercy prevented the blow.

For one of the gang, in his heart felt a pang
Of remorse, and his friend wish'd to save,
But suspicion was rais'd, (long be it prais'd)
Sav'd them all from an untimely grave.

Soldiers they brought, and Guy Fawkes was caught
With matches and lanthern in hand,
And saving the King and his ministers good,
Spread joy all over the land.

When conspiracy is known, 'tis soon overthrown,
Guy Fawkes was beheaded ; and we
With bonfire bright ; will burn him this night ;
And destroy him in effigy-

And thus every year, your memory to cheer,
And remind you of treason and plot,
Old Guy Fawkes We'll bring ; and loudly we'll sing
May Guy Fawkes day ne'er be forgot.

Then with heart, hand, and voice ; now let us rejoice,
May Old England with joy be seen,
May happiness be With you and with me,
Then let us say God save the Queen.
                                 Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah !
