A PRAYER AND COPY OF

                       VERSES

ON THE DREADFUL MALADY NOW

              RAGING IN THE LAND

IT appears by the return made to the Board of Health, that the f llowing places are the most serious
and numerously affected in the Metropolis, viz.,

      GREENWICH. BERMONDSEY

                       LAMBETH

The above places re the greatest sufferers, but we are sorry to add, that the dreadful mala ly is stil
raging to a fearful extent throughout the land.
The following Prayer, beseeching the Almighty to remove this direful pestilence from us, is recom-
mended to be read by all parties :—

Almighty and everlasting God, who art
the author and fountain of all goodness,
and the great propitiator of our sins, grant
that we may not be cut off in the midst of
our sins and iniquities by the direful pes i-
lence that is raging through our land, but
that Thou wouldst be pleased to remove
this scourge from us, and that the re-
mainder of our days may be devoted in
thankfulness and humiliation to Thee,
who art the sole comforter under all our
afflictions, and grant, O Lord, that our
maniſold sins may not call Thy vengeance
npon us, but spare us from all contagions
fever and sudden death ; and O most mer-
ciful God, of Thy infinite mercy and good-
ness, we beseech Thee to remove this cala-
mity from our earth, and that Thou wouldst
assist as to embrace the everlasting happi-
ness which Thou hast promised, through
Thy dear Son, Jesus Christ, Our Lord and
Saviour. Amen.

There is no one upon the earth
who can Death's power withstand,
The high, the low, the rich, the poor,
Must all fall with his hand.

No oue can ell how soon or late
He may upon them call,
Therefore prepare whilst you have time,
Lest unprepared you fall.

Repent, ye great ones of the earth,
who grind the famish'd poor,
For now the ghastly monster Death,
Is standing at your door.

Avoid that dangerous sin of pride,
And think upon your God,
Lest he should be provok'd to wrath,
And scourge you with his rod.

Beware of Sabbath breaking, too,
Good people all, we pray,
And not forget to worship God,
Upon that holy day.

Do you not know that great command,
Our Saviour left on earth,
That all should love each other well,
Until their time of death.

T'was for the love of us he died,
And suffered so much pain,
And now the world do cruelly
Him crucify again.
