SHOCKING
M U R D E R
  OF A
YOUNG WOMAN
Near Russell Square.
You feeling Christians, lend an ear,
To this most dreadful tale,
And to fill each heart with sorrow
It surely cannot fail.
It's of a cold blooded murder
as ever man did hear,
Committed in Great Coram Street,
Which is near Russell Square.
CHORUS
Of the death of Clara Bruton,
It's shocking for to read,
And her blood now calls for vengence,
On the author of this deed.
At No. 12, Great Coram Street,
A female she did dwell
And known as Clara Bruton
Who shocking for to tell.
Through the hand of a cruel monster
To an early grave has gone,
Yes, sad to tell a victim fell
Upon last Christmas morn.
On Christmas eve, poor Clara
With a gentleman went home,
And nothing more was heard of them
Until the Christmas morn.
When the heartless murderer
From her room came down the stairs
And poor Clara left, a mangled corpse
How shocking for to hear.
Her landlady not seeing her
Was filled with dread they say,
with trembling steps proceded
To the room where Clara lay
And there a fearful sight appeared,
For on the bed did lay,
The body of Clara Bruton
a mass of lifeless clay.
with a pocket-knife, it is supposed
was done this deed of strife,
But the victim's face was quite as calm
As it had been in life.
The Evidence of this foul deed,
was seen on the bedding, and floor,
Of such a cold blooded murder
we have seldom heard before.
Now let us hope the murderer
May soon be brought to light,
And justice soon be on his track
And stay his guily flight.
No punishment can be too great,
He has offended man and god,
The wretch who in Great Coram Street
Spilt Clara Bruton's blood.
