Lamentable Lines
ON THE
DOUBLE MURDER
In Naul Co., Dublin.
You feeling christians of every degree,
Pay attention unto this tragedy,
Of a dreadful murder I will unfold
Enough to make your very blood run cold.
Joseph Dorey in Naul did dwell,
Bore a good character and was respected well,
Till cursed jealousy in drink led him astray,
From the path of virtue he went away.
On the fatal night, the 12th of July,
Mrs. Dorey and her baby in bed did lie,
She little thought that a plot was made
For to send them to an untimely grave.
His wife and babe lay in the room,
For the loss of life many weep and moan
They could not struggle their lives to save,
But the murderer sent tham to an untimely grave.
The sight was dreadful for to view,
When the people entered the bedroom
In a pool of blood sad for to say,
Mrs. Dorey and her baby in the bed they lay.
That God may relieve the distracted minds
Of her agod parents that is left behind,
Looking at the dead corpse of their daughter dear,
It would cause the hardest heart to shed a tear.
Now let us hope he'll make his peace with God,
If ever he offers his avenging rod,
Let he to Him for mercy call,
Where pardon it for one and all.
