REPORT OF THE KING INSTITUTE, GUINDY

greatest rush supplies had to be rationed, but soon all demands were met in full,
thanks to the good work of the staff who worked both hard and long—from 10 to
12 hours a day in some cases. Of those whose good work is to be particularly
commended, I should like to mention Dr. J. H. Theodore, then in charge of the
bacterial vaccine section, whose devotedness to duty was largely responsible for
the happy result of our output of vaccine overtaking the demand while maintain-
ing its proper potency.

One other gratifying feature of the year is the fact that the case success rate
of our vaccine lymph has reached the record for Madras of 96.9 per cent. This
is due to the good work of the Assistant Director, Dr. C. G. Pandit, and of his
helpers, among whom I wish particularly to mention Khan Sahib Mahomed Omar
Sahib Bahadur, Senior Assistant in the Vaccine Section, whose steady reliable
work added to his long practical experience of calves and vaccine lymph has been
a great factor in the success achieved.

The extra routine work has prevented the doing of as many special investi-
gations as last year, but, thanks mainly to Dr. C. G. Pandit, a great deal of
important work has been done this year on filariasis.
