      9. Sickness and Mortality according to season.—The following statement
shows the number of admis-
sions and deaths from all
causes among in-door pa-
tients month by month, and
the number of admissions
of out-door patients. The
number of deaths registered
by the municipality are also
shown for comparison. The
latter half of the year was
the sickliest and most fatal.
The municipal and hospital
mortality returns exhibit
a general agreement, as is
shown on the margin, when the months are arranged in order of severity As
regards sickness, the number
of in-door patients can hardly
be accepted as a good index,
because the accommodation
of hospitals is limited. There
was a considerably larger
attendance in the later than
the earlier months of the
year. The increase is com-
mon to in-door and out-door
patients, and is so pro-
nounced as to leave no doubt on the subject.

Sickness and mor-
  tality according
  to season.

Comparison of mu-
  nicipal and hos-
  pital returns.

In the following statement I have placed a few diseases from which a
large share of the sickness and mortality is due, and which are most likely to
be influenced by season. I have also placed side by side with the hospital
statistics the figures which have been collected by the Health Officer:—

Prevalence of par-
  ticular diseases
  according to sea-
  son.
