GOVT. MEDICAL SCHOOL, RANGOON, FOR THE YEAR 1937-38.

     The number of confinement cases per annum for the last three years
was as follows. The figures given in the 1935-36 report include
Obstetric cases also treated in the unit:—

     The number of microscopes allotted for the use of students in teaching
Physiology and Pathology is as follows. The Pathological micro-
scopes are provided with 1/12 objectives.

to the school.

     9. General.—The syllabus of the course for students is given as an
appendix in the Rules of the Burma Medical Examination Board,
Rangoon. The length of the course of study extends to four years.

     The Licence of L.M.P. (Licensed Medical Practitioner) is given to
students who pass the Final Examination by the Burma Medical
Examination Board, Rangoon.

     10. Staff.—List showing the names of the staff with their academic
qualifications and their duties in the Medical School or elsewhere is
appended as Annexure I. Changes in the staff during the year under
review are also given.

     11. (a) Men's Hostel.—The hostel is still accommodated in the Old
General Hospital buildings, which are old and dilapidated.

     The opening balance in the Hostel Fund Account was Rs. 3,386-14-2.
The receipts during the year amounted to Rs. 13,392-10-0
(Rs. 11,989-13-0) and the expenditure was Rs. 13,019-10-9
(Rs. 12,606-13-9). The closing balance is Rs. 3,759-13-5. Seventy-two
students resided in the Hostel during the year under report.

     (b) Women's Hostel.—The opening balance in the Women's Hostel
Fund Account was Rs. 86-7-6. The receipts during the year amounted
to Rs. 5,251-13-0 (Rs. 1,290-6-0—from 15th December 1936 to 31st
March 1937) and the expenditure was Rs. 4,437-7-0 (Rs. 1,203-14-6—from
15th December 1936 to 31st March 1937). The closing balance is
Rs. 900-13-6. Eighteen students resided in the Hostel during the year
under report.

     12. Annual Prize Distribution.—The annual distribution of medals
was held on the 14th December 1937, when the Hon'ble Minister for
Education presided and gave away the medals detailed below. The
