General conclusions. —With the exception of the mild outbreak of dengue in May last, the
general health of the corps, as a body, has been satisfactory.

General
conclusions.

Deputy Surgeon-General J. Wilson inspected this detachment on the 9th
November 1876 and reports as follows:—

Sanitary condition of the lines as to cleanliness, ventilation, &c. —The lines are clean
and sanitation carefully attended to. There are two latrines, and the night-soil and sweepings
carted away regularly and buried in a distant spot allotted for that purpose. The huts have
a cheerful appearance, each one having a little garden, generally containing fruit-trees, attached
to it. They are all thatched. The natural drainage of the lines is perfect, the soil being
extremely porous, but there are no artificial drains. Number of inmates in a hut, five.

Hospital. —The hospital is an excellent one, adapted for about 18 patients. It is well
ventilated by ridge ventilators, doors and windows. It is scrupulously clean and in good
repair. There is no artificial drainage, but, from the nature of the soil, natural drainage is
perfect.
