VI.—How far the registration has been efficient, what classes it extends, and over what area, &c.

The Act extends over an, area of about nine square miles.

No comparison as to attendance, &c., can be made with the previous years, as
this report embraces eight months only.

VII.—whether registration fees have been levied and at what rate.

No fees are taken from the women.

VIII.—Whether the women have been regular at the periodical examinations; any remarks on the cause
of irregularity; the number of individual women reported for non-attendance; the fines or other
punishments awarded and the amount realized.

The women attended fairly well, and- seemed to me to regret the closing of
the institution.

Eight women were reported, of whom two were brought before a Magistrate
and the remainder .absconded. Of the two who were brought before the Magistrate,
one was convicted and one acquitted.

IX.—The arrangements for examining and treating the women of the city and cantonment.

       The examinations were weekly.

X.—How far disease has increased or decreased among women; to what extent it has become less virulent in
its nature as compared with that among the men; is there any relation between the two; how
far admissions among the women are due to non-venereal affections or to detention of women
during the monthly illness.

The only relations observed between the disease in the female and that
observed in the male was that all the cases of chancre were of a mild type.

Gonorrhœa and gonorrhœal leuchorrœa were the chief diseases treated, and
knowing how difficult these diseases are to cure in the female, I doubt how far
lock-hospitals tend to prevent the diseases from spreading.

IX—How far dhaies have been employed and with what success.

       No dhaies were employed.

XII.—Any information on other matters or suggestions for improvement of the rules.

How far the closing of this institution will affect the spread of disease
is yet to be seen. I think much good was done in checking true syphilis, that
most formidable of all diseases. Promo has a large Native population, and is one
of the largest thoroughfare towns in the province, both for Natives and Europeans,
and now that all restriction is removed, and the poor sexual victims allowed to
wander about the streets, the unfortunate sufferers will be on the increase.

The cost of the institution averaged Rs. 119-7-10½ per mensem.
