88 THE INDIAN JOURNAL OF VETERINARY SCIENCE AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY [ III, I
of Agriculture, Dutch East Indies, Java, for 1922 (presumably on the basis of results
reported by Rodenwaldt and his collaborators) that in view of the toxicity of " Bayer
205 ", " no higher doses could be used than ½ grm. per 150—200 kgm. on alternate
days for 20 days (10 grms. altogether) ".
Yakimoff and his collaborators [1929] describe a case af equine trypanosomiasis
(presumably caused by Trypanosoma evansi or an allied parasite) treated with
" Fourneau 309 " (which is regarded by certain workers as being identical with
" Bayer 205 ") at the rate of: 0.0125 grm. per kg. body-weight, the actual dose
given being 5 grms. The drug was given intravenously and the injection was
followed by certain toxic symptoms which, however, rapidly disappeared, and the
condition of the animal returned to normal in 3 or 4 days' time.
Edwards [1928], in India, carried out thirteen trials (at Muktesar) to test the
value of " Bayer 205 ", when injected intravenously alone, in the treatment of
experimental cases of equine surra. The results of these trials are summarized in
the following Table :—
