                                       H—Hissar                                                                      M—Murrah

The analysis of variance of the initial liveweight
of the different groups shows no significant differ-
ence. It appears from the analysis of variance of
rate of growth that the variation due to feed is
significant at 0.1 per cent level. The average
rate of growth per week for the treatments are
10.46, 6.77 and 7.11 lb. with a standard error
of ± 0.237 lb. indicating thereby that the full
concentrate ration is definitely superior to both
50 per cent and 75 per cent replacement of protein
of the concentrate by berseem, but there is no
significant difference between the latter two treat-
ments.

The analyses of the data show a highly signifi-
cant difference in the growth rate of Hissar and
Murrah breeds and the interaction of breeds with
feeds is also significant at 5 per cent level.

The experiment was repeated in the year 1940,
with a larger number of animals to confirm the
findings. Eighteen heifers, nine Hissar and nine
Murrah, were taken for this purpose. All the
animals were fed with the full concentrate ration
for three weeks before they were distributed into
three comparable groups according to age and live-
weight.

As in the previous experiment, one group was
allowed to continue on the concentrate ration;
half of the protein of concentrates was replaced
by the protein of berseem for the second group;
while three-fourths of concentrate protein was
similarly replaced for the third group. All the
animals received 40 gm. of Churn Brand mineral
mixture throughout the test which lasted for 10
weeks. The distribution of the animals into the
different groups and the weekly average live-
weights during the experiment have been shown
in Table II.
