G. D. BHALERAO                                          295

74 per cent. It was found in I. exustus at Acham-
pet, Lingampally, Banjpally and Arepally; in
L. luteola at Achampet, Rampur, Trimalapur,
Bodhan, Yedpally and Nizamabad and in L.
acuminata
at Banswada. At most of these places
the cercaria was found in a free state but at Bans-
wada 74 per cent of the molluscs examined har-
boured only the encysted stage.

Cercariae indicae XXVIII

This was originally obtained by Sewell [1922]
from L. acuminata at Manipur and at Bombay.
The writer obtained it from the same host at
Borlam.

Cercariae indicae X

This was first obtained by Sewell [1922] from
I. exustus in Calcutta and Wynaad. The writer
obtained it from L. luteola in Bodhan and in
Nizamsagar. The infection ranged from 0.5-15
per cent of the molluscs examined. This appears
to be larval stage of some plagiorchid or dicrocoƓlid
fluke of a reptile or an amphibian.

                AMPHISTOME CERCARIAE

Cercariae indicae XXVI

This species was originally obtained by Sewell
[1922] from I. exustus in Calcutta and in Wynaad,
by Chatterji [1931] in Rangoon and by Rao and
Ayyar [1932] in Madras. The writer obtained it,
from the same host at Borlam, Banswada, Rampur,
Bodhan, Yedpalli, Mosra, Madanpally, Nizam-
sagar and Trimalapur. The infection of the
molluscs at these places ranged from 3-30 per cent.
Experiments to raise the adults from these cer-
cariae were carried out by Chatterji [1931] and by
Rao and Ayyar [1932]. The former concluded
that the adult is Paramphistomum sp. while the
latter thought it to be Paramphistomum cervi.
Subsequently Chatterji believed the adult to be
Co'ylophoron colylophorum. Srivastava [1938]
raised C. cotylophorum from a cercaria which he
considered to be allied to but not identical with
Cercariae indicae XXVI. It thus appears that
carefully conducted experiments must be carried
out in order to reach a satisfactory conclusion. It
is obviously, however, a larval stage of some
amphistome of domestic ruminant.

Cercariae indicae XXIX.

This firm was obtained by Sewell [1922] from
L. acuminata in Calcutta and from L. succinea
and Gyraulus euphraticus at Manantoddy.
In Madras Rao and Ayyar [1932], and
Vaidyanathan [1941] obtained it from L. luteola.
The writer obtained it at Gunkul and Banjpally
from the same host. The adult of this cercaria is
Fischoederius elongatus, a stomach fluke of cattle
and buffaloes in this country.

               ECHINOSTOME CERCARIAE

Three species of echinostome cercariae were
obtained from I. exustus, L. acuminata and L.
luteola
from Lingampallu, Achampet, Trimalapur,
Ankol, Bodhan, Madanpally and Arepally. Adult
echinostomes have been recorded from ducks,
cats, dogs, pigs and men. Carefully conducted
experiments will have to be devised in order to
establish the relationship between these cercariae
and the adult echinostomes. In all localities 4-10
per cent of the molluscs were infected.

                  DISTOME CERCARIAE

Cercaria pigmentosa

This was originally found by the writer
[Bhalerao, 1933] in L. acuminata at Almora. The
writer has experimentally raised Fasciola gigantica
from this species of cercaria. This cercaria occurs
in the same host in the Nizam's Dominions in the
summer months and towards the beginning of the
monsoon.

                MONOSTOME CERCARIAE

Cercariae VIII

This parasite was originally recorded by Sewell
[1922] in Melanoides tuberculatus in Calcutta,
Bombay and Nilambur; and in Aerostoma vari-
abile
var. spiniferum and in Digonistoma cera,
meopoma
in Calcutta. The writer obtained it from
Melanoides sp. at Yedpally.

Cercariae indicae IX

This form was originally found by Sewell [1922]
in Indoplanorbis exustus in Calcutta and in Madras
Presidency and in Gyraulus euphraticus in Calcutta.
The writer obtained it from L. luteola at Acham-
pet and at Ankol in L. acuminata at Banswada and
in I. exustus at Achampet, Trimalapur, Ankol,
Ibrahimpet, Rampur and Yedpally.

Adult monostomes have been recorded from the
domestic birds and mammals in this country.
They fall into three genera, viz., Notocotylus, Cata-
tropis
and Cymbiforma.

            CYSTOCERCOUS CERCARIAE

Cercariae indicae XXXV

This was originally found by Sewell [1922] in
mnicola travancoria in Nadgani in Madras
residency. The writer obtained it from I.
exustus
in Rampur.
