868.    Rinderpest.—The mortality from this cause only amounted to 318
against 951 deaths reported during the previous year. A mild outbreak occurred
in the Paungyi circle of the Hlegu township during the month of April when 57
animals died. During May another mild outbreak was reported from the Dabien
circle
of the township, which continued through June. Only 36 deaths were
recorded. Sporadic cases were reported from time to time from other sub-divisions
of the district.

869.    Anthrax and Charbon Symptomatique.—Under this heading 473 deaths
were registered. Of these 174 and 133 were reported from Kawa and Hlegu
circle townships
, respectively, the Onhne circle of the former and Hlegu circle of
the latter suffering most. From the Onhne circle 90 deaths were reported, 72 of
which were reported between the months of June and September. In the Hlegu
circle
the disease was most prevalent in August and September, during which
period 52 deaths were registered.

870.    Foot and Mouth disease.—During the last quarter of the year this
disease was very prevalent in the Pynutaza township, some 30 deaths being recorded
in January, and 26 during March. The total number of deaths for the year from
this cause was 82.

                                          THARRAWADDY.

871.    The mortality from contagious maladies in this district is much less
than during the previous year, due to the fact that cattle plague was less prevalent.
The number of deaths registered last year was 5,262 and during this 733.

872.    Rinderpest. In April the disease prevailed in a mild form in several
townships, notably Sanywe, Minhla, Gyobingauk and Tapun, the mortality being
52, 71, 69 and 15, respectively. In Sanywe the disease died out in July, in
Gyobingauk in June, but in the Minhla and Tapun townships it continued off and
on till the month of October, carrying off a few animals every month. In the
former township 213 deaths were recorded during the year, and in Tapun 194.

873.    Anthrax and Charbon Symptomatique. The Gyobingauk township was
the only one in which these diseases prevailed to any extent. During April 120
deaths were reported, the total for the district being 157; after this the disease
practically died out, only a few deaths being recorded every month. The total
mortality for the district amounted to 417, of which 200 deaths were recorded in
the Gyobingauk township.

874.    Foot and Mouth disease.—Eighty-six deaths were reported during the
year. The heaviest mortality, 19 occurred in October.

                                                PROME.

875.    The mortality in this district is much lower than last year, Rinderpest
and Anthrax having been less prevalent.

876.    Rinderpest. The number of deaths during the previous year amounted
to 2,326 and only 591 during the year under report. The only outbreaks worth
noting were reported from the Mahathaman, Paungde, and Padaung townships.
In the first named township the disease broke out in April and continued with
some severity until June, after which month it gradually subsided. The
mortality during this quarter amounted to 120. The disease broke out in May
in the Paungde township, and during the month 35 animals succumbed to it. In
June 28 deaths were reported and in July 26, after which month the mortality
steadily decreased, but the disease did not entirely die out till December. The
mortality for the year amounted to 165. During May the disease was also reported
from the Padaung township. It, however, caused little or no trouble till August,
when 40 deaths were reported, in September only 26 deaths were recorded, after
this the disease rapidly died out. Towards the close of the year an outbreak was
reported from the Thegon township.

877.    Anthrax and Charbon Symptomatique.—In the Thegon township these
diseases prevailed off and on throughout the year. Out of a total of 428 animals
in the district, no less than 204 of the deaths were registered in this township.
The highest mortality was recorded in the months of June and October, namely
33 in the former and 41 during the latter month.
