912.    Anthrax and Charbon Symptomatique. These diseases gave no trouble
the total deaths recorded being 180.

Myoma township.

                                  SALWEEN HILL TRACTS.

Health of cattle excellent.

                                          UPPER BURMA.

914.    As in Lower Burma the great majority of outbreaks reported
were not so extensive or so virulent as those reported during last year.

915 Rinderpest. During this year the disease was reported from the follow-
ing districts, namely Lower Chindwin, Myingan, Pakokku, Minbu, Magwe, and
Mandalay. Owing to the prevailing scarcity in many parts of these districts
during the past year the cattle had suffered considerably in condition, and
were thus rendered more liable to contract, and less able to withstand attacks of
disease, and had the people not disposed of large numbers of their cattle to
purchasers from Lower Burma, &c., the mortality would in all probability have been
exceedingly heavy. Lower Chindwin, the Deputy Commissioner remarks:—

It is satisfactory to report that there has been a remarkable decrease in the cattle disease during the
year as compared with last year. The disease was very severe at one time in the Kani and Mintaingbin
townships. It broke out during the early part of the year, and continued to inflict heavy losses till July
when it abated.

916.      Myingyan. In this district the disease broke out in the early part of
the year, and continued to give trouble till the end of August. Out of a total of 938
deaths reported 696 were recorded in the Kyaikpadaung township, and 187 in the
Sale sub-division. There was great scarcity of fodder and water in the district.
1525 animals, are reported to have died from starvation.

917.    Pakokku. Rinderpest was prevalent in certain parts of the Yesagyo
sub-division throughout the year. The mortality for the district amounted to 447.

918.    Anthrax and Charbon Symptomatique. Slight outbreaks were reported
from the following districts: Mandalay, Lower Chindwin, Magwe, and Shwebo.

919.    Foot and Mouth disease. The disease prevailed to a slight extent in
several districts principally in Shwebo, Bhamo, Mandalay, Lower Chindwin,
Myingyan, Magwe and Yamethin.

                                          SHAN STATES

920.    Northern Shan States. An outbreak of cattle disease was reported in
June, but did not continue for any time.

921.    Southern Shan 'States. Rinderpest prevailed in certain parts of the
Southern Shan States during June and July, towards the close of the year a fresh
outbreak was reported The Superintendent applied for the services of a Veterinary
Assistant and his request was immediately complied with.
