(iii) The operations of a V. O. acting as an inspector under the provisions
of the Glanders and Farcy Act (see Appendix VIII) are to be confined to the
area within a radius of 5 miles from the station or stations of which he is
in veterinary charge.

41.  Rinderpests.—(i) Immunization of animals belonging to the Military
Farms Department against rinderpest will be carried out by the serum simul-
taneous method with the technique of which all V. Os. and veterinary assistant
surgeons must be acquainted. Except in the case of those located in the hills,
animals will, as a general rule, be inoculated in the cold season ; the equip-
ment authorized to enable inoculation to be effected is shown in Regulations
for the Equipment of the Army (India), Part 2.

(ii) When possible, a V. O. who inoculates by the serum simultaneous
method, will remain in close observation of the animals for 3 days after the
inoculation; when this is not possible, a selected veterinary assistant surgeon
conversant with the process and possessing a good knowledge of cattle, is to
be detailed for the purpose.

42.  Rabies.—A V. O. will only inspect and express an opinion on a
suspected case of rabies when the services of a veterinary assistant surgeon
are not available. V. O. or veterinary assistant surgeon who examines
at the request of a municipal, cantonment or other authority a rabid dog
or a dog suspected of rabies, is entitled to demand from the authority
making the request the following fees in respect of such examination :—

V. O. Rs. 15 for each examination.

Veterinary assistant surgeon Rs. 5 for each examination.
A dog which is under suspicion of being rabid will not be retained in a
veterinary hospital.

43.  Dourine.—The provisions of the Dourine Act are given in Appendix
IX.
