Anti-rinderpest inoculations— Table
III.

12. Rinderpest inoculations were carried out in 338 outbreaks and
66,199 animals were inoculated against 365 out-
breaks and 81,105 inoculations last year.

Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia—Table II.

13. Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia accounted for 13,445 deaths against
10,705 in the previous year. Hoshiarpur,
Amritsar, Gujrat, Shahpur and Lyallpur suffer-
ed the most.

Preventive vaccination—Table III.

14. Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia vaccinations were performed on 33,771
animals in 19 districts against 36,971 in 15
districts in the previous year.

Preventive inoculations—Table III.

15. Preventive inoculations against Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia were
performed in 158 outbreaks and 29,786 animals
were inoculated against 100 outbreaks and
18,698 animals in the previous year.

Foot and Mouth Disease—Table II.

16. With the exception of Mianwali, Montgomery and Dera Ghazi
Khan Districts this disease appeared in all the
districts of the province. There were 1,295
deaths during the year under report against 512 in the previous year. These
figures are unreliable as they are supplied by patwaris who undoubtedly mix
up the causes of deaths.

Black quarter—Table II.

17. During the year under report 2,609 deaths were reported from
Black-quarter against 1,087 in the previous
year. The largest number of deaths occurred in
the Attock - District where out of 1087 animals reported to have been
attacked 913 died. The great majority of these outbreaks occurred in the
Dhanni tract. In the Chakwal Tahsil of the Jhelum District also this disease
caused much mortality. The Superintendent, North Punjab, has been asked to
pay special attention to these tracts in future.

Vaccinations against Black-quarter—
Table III.

18. 2,987 vaccinations were performed against this disease during the
year compared with 2,623 in the previous year.
Next year the Superintendent, North Punjab,
will give particular attention to the Dhanni tract where the losses have been
serious. This department has still a great deal to do in impressing on the
people the necessity for vaccinations.

Tuboreculosis.

19. Owing to the shortage of staff very little has been done with this
disease.

                                        Other animals.

Mortality—Table II.

20. The following contagious diseases oc-
curred in other animals :—

Rinderpest, Foot and Mouth, Gillar, Anthrax, Surra, Hæmorrhagic
Septicæmia and other diseases.

In all 2,563 deaths took place against 2,831 in the previous year.

                                      Sheep and Goats.

21.    Gillar and sheep scab were prevalent as usual. The former causes
a large number of deaths. Drenching of sheep is somewhat difficult, and
owing to the shortage of staff I fear the department is unable to do more than
it is doing.

                                                Dogs.

22.    Rabies had been prevalent during the year under report. 1,623
patients from the whole province are said to have been treated at the Pasteur
Institute at Kasauli. There are far too many ownerless dogs, and until there
is some thorough system of reducing the number not only rabies but other
diseases will be spread by them.
