Annual Administration Report of the Civil Veterinary
        Department in Ajmer-Merwara (British
              Rajputana), for the year 1924-25.

                GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S. remained in charge of the Civil
Veterinary Department in Ajmer-Merwara throughout the year
under report.

2. He inspected the Veterinary Dispensaries at Ajmer and
Beawar and was on tour in Ajmer-Merwara for 6 days and travelled
1,098 miles by rail and 26 miles by road. While at Ajmer, he
attended an outbreak of Rinderpest at Saradhna and Kesarpura.

                    I.—Veterinary Instruction.

3. There are no Veterinary Colleges or Schools in the Province
and there is, therefore, nothing to be reported under this head.

                     II.—Treatment of Disease.

4. Outbreaks of contagious disease were reported from Ajmer Table II.
and Merwara districts and were as under :—

                (i) EQUINE CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.

5. Rabies.—Two horses were attacked and destroyed.

6. Surra.—The Salutri in charge of Beawar Veterinary Dis-
pensary reports that 2 horses died of Surra in the Merwara
district. They were not confirmed as the Salutri did not report
the cases to any Veterinary Practitioner at the time of occurrence.

                (ii) BOVINES CONTAGIOUS DISEASE.

7. Rinderpest.—Sixteen outbreaks of the disease were reported;
3,183 head of cattle were affected and 954 died.

8. Foot-and-Mouth Disease.—The disease broke out in the Mer-
wara district and 60 animals were reported to have died.

9. Black Quarter.—In two outbreaks of the disease in Ajmer
district, 20 animals were affected and 18 died.

(iii) CONTAGIOUS DISEASE AMONGST OTHER ANIMALS.

10. Rabies.—Fourteen dogs were attacked and died or were
destroyed

11. Distemper.—Ten animals died of the disease.
