ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE CIVIL
          VETERINARY DEPARTMENT IN AJMER-MERWARA,
          (BRITISH RAJPUTANA), FOR THE YEAR 1936-37.

                    I.—GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S., was in charge of the Civil Veterinary Depart-
ment, Ajmer-Merwara, throughout the year under report. He inspected all
the Veterinary Dispensaries in the province and travelled 995 miles by rail
and 118 miles by road, as against 959 miles by rail and 116 miles by road
last year.

                        II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASE.

2.  Table II.—Outbreaks of contagious disease were reported from Ajmer-
Merwara Districts and were as under :—

                                        (i) EQUINES.

3.  Strangles.—Six horses were attacked and all recovered under treat-
ment in Beawar.

                                      (ii)BOVINES.

                                        (a) Cattle.

4.  Rinderpest.—In fiftyeight outbreaks of Rinderpest, 1,179 head of
cattle were attacked and 392 died, as against 48 outbreaks, 2,112 attacks and
687 deaths among bovines in the previous year.

5.  Foot-and-Mouth Disease.—Thirtynine outbreaks were reported with
2,940 attacks and 23 deaths, as against 43 outbreaks, 1,223 attacks and 38
deaths.

6.  Liver Fluke.—Six outbreaks were reported with 96 attacks and 55
deaths in Merwara District.

                                        (b)Buffaloes.

7.  Rinderpest.—In 52 outbreaks, 542 buffaloes were attacked and 294
died.

8.  Hœmorrhagic Septicœmia.—There was only one outbreak which
caused the death of 9 animals.

9.  Foot-and-Mouth Disease.—Thirtyone outbreaks were reported with
504 attacks and one death.

10.  Anthrax.—One suspicious case of Anthrax was reported but was not
confirmed.

11.  Liver Fluke.—Five outbreaks were reported with 54 attacks and
34 deaths.

                                    (iii) OTHER ANIMALS

                                            (a) Sheep.

12.  Foot-and-Mouth Disease.—In 4 outbreaks 149 sheep were attacked
and 7 died.
