                (vi) HOSPITALS AND DISPENSARIES.

32.  Table V.—There were 3 Veterinary Dispensaries working in the
province, the same number as last year. The number of cases treated was
6,066, as against 6,537 in the previous year. In addition, medicines and
advice were given to 1,126 animals which were not brought to the dispensaries
during the year under report, as against 806 in the previous year. 16 equines,
413 bovines and 121 other animals were castrated at the dispensaries during
the year under report, as against 382 bovines and 78 other animals in the
previous year.

                     III.—BREEDING OPERATIONS.

33.  No breeding operations are carried out in the province by the Civil
Veterinary Department.

                              FAIRS AND SHOWS.

34.  Table XIII.—The Horse and Pony Show at Pushkar was held in
November 1936. 268 animals competed for prizes and Rs. 569 and 2 silver
medals were awarded, as against 316 animals competed and Rs. 595 and 2
silver medals awarded in the Show held in the previous year.

35.  Table XIV.—In the Cattle Show held at Pushkar in conjunction
with the Horse and Pony Show, 166 animals (Cattle and camels) compe-
ted and Rs. 407 were awarded as prizes, as against 215 animals and Rs. 405
awarded in the previous year.

    IV.—SUBORDINATE VETERINARY ESTABLISHMENT.

36.  Table VII.—The subordinate staff employed was three Veterinary
Assistant Surgeons the same as in the previous year. All 3 Veterinary Assist-
ant Surgeons worked well. Khan Sahib Abdul Haq and Mr. U. K. Asnani
did good work in inoculating 6,403 cattle against Rinderpest by the Goat
Virus method.

          V.—EXPENDITURE OF THE DEPARTMENT.

37.  Table XIV-A.—The expenditure of the Department during the year
was Rs. 11,546, as against Rs. 10,764 in the previous year.

                          VI. GENERAL REMARKS.

38.  There is great need of a dispensary at Todgarh and one should be
opened when funds are available.

39.  Goat Virus vaccination against Rinderpest was used for the first
time in dealing with actual outbreaks and has given excellent results. The
treatment of Liver Fluke in Sheep, goats and cattle with Carbon Tetrachloride
was introduced at the end of the year and the results are promising.
