villages visited, 2,05,255 cases treated for contagious and parasitic
diseases, 4,114 for non-contagious diseases and 1,629 animals
castrated in the preceding year. The decrease in the number
of cases treated for contagious and parasitic diseases and number
of villages visited was due to less reporting of outbreaks of Liver-
Fluke Disease in 1940-11, as Carbon Tetrachloride for the treatment
of this disease was not available for part of the year.

                                  (vi) Investigation.

41.    311 specimens submitted by the subordinate staff from
cases of Surra, Piroplasmosis, Anthrax, Haemorrhagic Septicaemia
and Liver-Fluke and other parasitic diseases were examined
and 153 of these were positive of 2 brains of dogs sent to Haffkine
Institute, Bombay, both were declared positive for Rabies.

42.    The Veterinary Investigation Officer, Sind and Ajmer-
Merwara, continued his work of his investigation of the several
diseases viz., Wah, Contagious, Pleuro Pneumonia, Contagious
Mastitis, Rinderpest, Contagious Abortion, Plant Poisoning,
Encephalomyelitis. The usual detailed annual report of this
officers' work and its summary have been submitted to Govern-
ment of Sind and to the Imperial Council of Agricultural Research,
New Delhi.

              (vii) Veterinary Hospitals and Dispensaries.

43.     Table III.—There were 24 Veterinary dispensaries
working in the province at the beginning and 3 were opened during
the year, making a total of 27 hospitals and dispensaries as on 31st
March 1941 of these 1 was in charge of Veterinary Assistant Surgeon
employed by the District Local Board, Thar Parkar. The number
of in and out-patients treated at these institutions during the
year was 41,645 as against 46,768 in the previous year. Medicines
and advice were given to owners of 12,483 animals which were
not brought to the dispensaries, as compared with 16,612 in 1939-40.
The number of castrations performed was 4,631 as against 3,870
in 1939-40.

                              III —Breeding operations.

                                          (i) Equines.

44.    Table VI-C.—There were three Stallions at Stud at the
beginning of the year, viz., 2 in Upper Sind Frontier and 1 in Dadu
district. One of the Stallions in the Upper Sind Frontier district
died and 2 were left in the Province at end of the year under report.
The Stallions covered 103 mares as against 232 in the previous
year. The expenditure incurred on maintenance of Stallions
in 1940-41 was Rs. 1,995 of which Government contributed Rs. 5.83
