                      (ii) CONTAGIOUS DISEASES IN BOVINES.

                                                (a) Cattle.

9.     Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia.—There were in all 245 attacks and
222 deaths reported from all the districts of Sind as against 242 seizures and
227 deaths during the previous year.

10.     Foot-and-Mouth disease.—This disease was reported from all the
districts in Sind with 3,551 attacks and 33 deaths as against 3,394 attacks
and 55 deaths during the last year.

11.     Black Quarter.—Only one outbreak was reported in Sukkur district
and all the four cattle attacked were reported to have succumbed to the disease.
During the previous year there was only one attack and one death.

12.     Anthrax.—This disease was responsible for causing 5 deaths in
Karachi and Larkana districts as against 26 deaths reported during the year
preceding.

13.     Rabies.—There were 4 attacks and 4 deaths from Rabies as against
5 attacks and 5 deaths during the last year.

14.     Other Contagious, Infectious and Parasitic diseases.—Two attacks
and 2 deaths were reported from Piroplasmosis, 23 attacks and one death
from Parasitic bronchitis, 30 attacks and 25 deaths from White scour and
12 attacks without mortality from Ring worm. None of these diseases
occurred last year. Liver Fluke Disease was reported from all the districts
and was responsible for a mortality of 177 cattle out of 7,232 attacked as
against 430 deaths and 10,501 attacks reported during the preceding year.
A systematic line of treatment by means of Carbon Tetrachloride Drug has
considerably reduced the mortality from year to year as could be judged from
the progress made by the Department in this direction.

                                          (b) Buffaloes.

15.     Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia.—In all, 565 attacks and 540 deaths were
reported from all the districts of Sind as against 807 seizures and 774 deaths
last year.

16.     Foot-and-Mouth disease.—There were 671 attacks with 8 deaths as
against 947 seizures and 33 deaths reported from all the districts of Sind last
year

17.     Black Quarter.—In one outbreak 4 attacks and 4 deaths took place
in Sukkur district, whereas last year no outbreak of this disease was recorded.

18.     Anthrax.—There were 13 attacks and 12 deaths during the year
under report as against 3 attacks and 3 deaths last year.

19.     Other Contagious, Infectious and Parasitic diseases.—Liver Fluke
disease was responsible for 10,032 attacks and 349 deaths in buffaloes as
compared with 12,974 seizures and 603 deaths in the preceding year. There
were 7 attacks without mortality from Piroplasmosis-Bronchitis against nil
last year. It will appear that the Liver Fluke disease is on its steady decrease
from year to year as maldars having realised the efficacy of treatment with
the drug Carbon Tetrachloride for which there is overwhelming demand
throughout the Province.
