97. The four classed as not seen were not inspected by me as I did not
attend the Sibi Horse Show for reasons stated in paragraph 65 of this report.
This number is in excess to the number of stock shown in Appendix X. The
stallions in Beluchistan have been struck off the registers of this Presidency.
The other stallions stated as transferred to Bengal were reported unfit for stud
purposes.

Cost of feed and keep of
donkey stallions.

98. The cost of the feed and keep of, and attendants on, donkey stallions
in the districts is shown in Appendix XIX. The
general average is Rs. 291-7-7. This shows an increase
of Rs. 60-8-10. The increase is due to the transit
expenses of four stallions sent to Babungarh, they having been reported as
useless for stud purposes.

Mule Stock : Number of.

99. The return of mule stock produced, as shown in Appendix XX. gives
the total of 76 against 58 last year. Thus there is an
increase of 18 over the previous year. The four
donkey stallions in Beluchistan covered very few mares and they are now
transferred to Sind. The average of mules foaled per stallion employed is
8.24 against 7.83 in the previous year.

Pony mares covered by
donkey stallions.

100. During the year under review 819 mares were served by donkey
stallions against 616 last year. The steady annual
increase in the numbers given above shows that
mule-breeding is becoming more popular.
