Of the total strength (including Beluchistán) on the register, the number actually
employed at stud work during the year was 88.67. The remainder were in
depôt either for acclimatization, or temporarily unfit for service.

8. Appendix III is the map of the horse-breed-
ing districts: horse stallion stands are shown in red
ink and the donkey stallion stands are shown in green
ink.

9.    Appendices IV and V show the number of mares covered by each horse
and donkey stallions together with the results. These returns are furnished in
accordance with the orders of Government: vide paragraph 9 of Government
Resolution in the Revenue Department, No. 1259, dated 19th February 1S92.
The Statements VII and VIII of the last annual report have been discontinued
by the order of the Government of India.

Stallions: demand for.

11. Horse-breeding is steady in Deccan and Gujarát and it is flourishing in
Sind, Cutch and Beluchistán. In Deccan and Gujarát
there was scarcity of forage during the year under
report, and therefore, the services of some of the Government stallions have not
been availed of to the full extent.
