This shows a decrease of 183 if compared with the figures of the previous
year. The decrease is due chiefly to the poor condition of mares on account of
the scarcity of forage.

Cast mares: sale of.

22. Only 1 cast mare was sold for brood purposes, as detailed in Appendix
IX. The mare was sold by the Military Department.
The sale of such mares through this Department has
been discontinued for some years past.
