17. On the 31st March 1892 the number of mares remaining on the
registers shown in Appendix VII was as follows:—

This shows a decrease of 183 if compared with the figures of the previous
year. The decrease is due chiefly to the poor condition of mares on account of
the scarcity of forage.

Cast mares: sale of.

22. Only 1 cast mare was sold for brood purposes, as detailed in Appendix
IX. The mare was sold by the Military Department.
The sale of such mares through this Department has
been discontinued for some years past.

Number of country-bred
remounts purchased.

23. The abstract of Appendix X is given below,
showing the number of country-bred remounts pur-
chased during the year:—

24. Besides the above the following number of remounts were purchased
at Quetta, Sibi and Shikárpur Horse Show; but they are not included in the
above statement, as they have gone to other Provinces.
