28. Veterinary Graduate D. G. Kulkarni.—Inspected on the 4th Septem-
ber 1901.—The total number of patients treated during
the year was 2,292 as against 2,177 last year, but this
includes 145 cases of foot and mouth disease, whereas no epizootic disease was
reported last year ; of the total number treated 471 were horses, 1,246 cattle,
and the remainder small animals. The work done is satisfactory.

Jalgaon.

29. Veterinary Graduate N. B. Soman.—Inspected on the 3rd September
1901 and found in good order. The total number of
cases treated was 1,054 as against 923 last year, the
increase being partly due to an outbreak of foot-rot in sheep, and foot and
mouth disease ; of the total number treated, 97 were horses, 406 bullocks, 110
cows, 119 buffaloes, 83 calves and the remainder small animals. Except a mild
outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the Jalgaon Táluka which was attended
by the Veterinary Graduate, no epizootic is reported to have occurred. The
Veterinary Graduate paid 26 visits to owners' houses and periodically inspected
the Government stallion at Chálisgaon. The work done is satisfactory.

Khándesh Itinerant.

30. Veterinary Graduate D. S. Purohit.—The dispensary was in charge
of Veterinary Graduate D. H. Chitnis from the 10th
April 1901 to the 20th June 1901, when he resigned,
and it was closed till the 7th July when the present incumbent was placed in
charge. Inspected on the 3rd September 1901. The total number of animals
treated was 577. No report was received last year as the dispensary was tempo-
rarily closed. Of the total number treated 108 were horses, 333 bullocks, 47
cows, 10 calves, 46 buffaloes, and the remainder small animals. The Veterinary
Graduate attended a course of instruction in rinderpest inoculations at Muktesar
for about a month and on his return in January was placed in charge of the
Dhulia Dispensary for a month during which time the itinerant dispensary was
suspended.

Poona.

31. Resident Veterinary Graduate Judah Hyam and the Assistant in
charge D. D. Sanga.—The resident Veterinary Gra-
duate investigated an outbreak of disease reported as
rinderpest in the village of Khadkala about 30 miles from Poona in May, and
attended a course of instruction in inoculations at Muktesar from 12th Novem-
ber to the 26th December. He was also placed under Dr. Lingard, the Imperial
Bacteriologist, from the 27th January to the 27th March 1902, while the latter
was carrying out rinderpest experiments at Poona. The work was meanwhile
carried on by D. D. Sanga. The total number of animals treated was 834 as
against 860 last year. The chief cause of the decrease is assigned to plague,
on account of which Poona is said to have been " almost empty for five months
of the year." Of the total number treated 294 were horses, 119 cattle, and the
remainder small animals. The Veterinary Graduate paid several visits to private
stables, taught practical work to the agricultural students at the College of
Science, and took the Intermediate B.Sc. Class in Zoology from January 1902.
The work done is satisfactory, and shows that improvement on former years
is maintained. Three cases of suspected rinderpest brought to the dispen-
sary in October 1901 were proved by chemical analysis to be poisoning by
arsenic.

Belgaum.

cases were treated. Both Veterinary Graduates attended the Municipal and
Police animals, and the Chinchli Cattle Fair was attended by D. S. Modak whose
work throughout the year has been very satisfactory.
