6. The number of stallions actually employed at stud-work was 11.07, and
the number of mares covered by them during the past year has been 284 or an
average of 25.65 each.

                                   (b)—REVENUE SECTION.

                                   I.—HORSE-BREEDING.
                  (1).—Government Horse and Pony Stallions.

7.    The cost of feed, keep, and transit of Government horse and pony stal-
lions in the non-selected districts during the year was as shown in Table IX.

8.    The average cost per stallion for the last two years is compared
below :—

Year.

Rs.

1902-1903 ... ... ... ...

407

1903-1904 ... ... ... ...

402

This shows a small decrease of Rs. 5. As the stallions now located in the
non-selected districts, are practically all ponies, no comparison between the cost
of maintaining a horse and a pony stallion separately in each district is
practicable.

                                   (2).—Branded mares.

9.    No mares were branded during the past year and the system has been
since abolished (vide Government Resolution, Revenue Department, No. 3588
of the 14th May 1904)

                                        (3).—Produce.

10.    Table V will show that out of 251 mares covered during 1902-03,
95 foaled, 96 did not hold, and the result of 60 is not known. The percentage of
these results is given below and compared with the figures for the year before
in each Province,
