ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT (PROVINCIAL) OF THE CIVIL
     VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, IN SIND, FOR THE OFFICIAL
                                             YEAR 1903-1904

                                   I.—HORSE BREEDING.

1.    There was no horse stallion, the property of District Board, Court of
Ward or private persons, in the province, during the year under report.

                                   II.—MULE BREEDING.

2.    There was no donkey stallion, the property of District Board, Court of
Ward or private persons, in the province, during the year under report.

                                   III—CATTLE DISEASE.

                              Investigation and Prevention.

3.    During the year under report the following principal contagious diseases
were reported:—

Gloss Anthrax, Foot and Mouth, Rabies, Variola Vaccina and Braxy.

In each case these were dealt with by the Veterinary Graduate of the district
in which they occurred, under the direction of the Superintendent, Civil Veterinary
Department.

No case of Glanders or Farcy was reported during the year under report.

                              Outbreaks during the year.

4s. Anthrax occurred in the Karachi and Hyderabad Districts, where the
following number of animals were attacked and died :—

5.     Foot and mouth disease broke out in the villages of the Karachi
District: 84 animals in all were attacked. These animals were properly segregated
at different places and attended to, and no death occurred,

6.    Rabies.—Nine cases of rabies were reported from Karáchi, all the rabid
dogs were destroyed.

7.    Variola Vaccina was broken out among cows; 4 cows were attacked by
the disease. All of them were segregated at their owners' stables and proper
measures were adopted to prevent the disease from further spreading.

8.    Braxy.—Three goats were attacked by this disease and all of them died.
They were burried at great distance; others were taken to some other village.

9.    Other diseases.—No other contagious diseases were reported to have
occurred during the year under report.

10.    The cattle of the district in which diseases occurred were treated by
the Veterinary Graduates.

IV.—CATTLE BREEDING INCLUDING CATTLE FAIRS AND SHOWS.

11.    There was only one bull, the property of the Hyderabad Local Board
kept in the province during the year under report.

12.    The bull covered 17 cows during the year as compared with 16 of the
last year. Results of the coverings of the year are shown in Table IV of this
report.
