Veterinary College. The cost of employing these men is roughly one-third of
the cost of employing Veterinary Graduates, and the District Local Boards have
been recommended to entertain a Salutri in each stationary dispensary in place
of the untrained compounder now employed. If this step were taken, the
Salutri would be competent to keep the dispensary open during the absence of
the Veterinary Graduate, and it would be possible to send the Veterinary
Graduate to attend villages within accessible distance by road or rail and
demonstrate to the people in their own villages the value of veterinary
assistance. The village ryot would derive more benefit from visits thus paid to
important villages on certain fixed days of every month and to cattle markets or
fairs than he does at present from the stationary dispensary.

13.    Some District Local Boards have accepted these recommendations,
and 7 Salutris have been entertained during the year under report.

Major Joslen has omitted to refer to the important question of the extension
of this cheaper agency of veterinary science. His attention is being called to
the point and he is being requested to use every effort to secure their wider
employment.

14.    Major Joslen and his assistant Mr. Buxy moved about actively in
visiting out-breaks of cattle disease and in making enquiries in regard to cattle-
breeding.

15.    As observed by the Commissioner in Sind the report for Sind contains
little information of interest.

For horse-breeding purposes the Province has been placed under the super-
intendence of an Imperial officer but it would appear desirable that the super-
intendence of the Veterinary Dispensaries should be in the hands of an officer
of this Government. A proposal to this effect was made in paragraph 7 of
letter No. A.-1272, dated 25th March 1903, from this office on which the orders
of Government are awaited.

16.    A statement is appended of figures erroneously entered in the
appendices.
