ANNUAL ADMNISTRATION REPORT OF THE CIVIL VETERINARY
            DEPARTMENT IN SIND FOR THE YEAR 1906-1907.

                               GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

During the year under report Mr. K. Hewlett held charge of the office
of the Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Sind, Baluchistan and
Rájputána, Captain Dawson being absent on leave, in addition to his own duties
as Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Bombay Presidency.

2.    The Superintendent was unable to undertake a detailed tour in Sind
this year on account of his time being very fully occupied in the Presidency
Proper and other parts of his charge. He attended the Horse and Cattle Show
at Talhar, Hyderabad District. He travelled 2,089 miles by rail as against 3,09-1
miles by rail and 387 by road last year.

I.—VETERINARY INSTRUCTION—VETERINARY COLLEGES OR SCHOOLS.

3.    There are no Veterinary Colleges or Schools in the Province and there
is no information to be recorded under this head.

II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASE—CONTAGIOUS DISEASES, OUTBREAKS,
                   MORTALITY, PREVENTIVE INOCULATION, & C.

4.    Reports of outbreaks of contagious diseases have been received from four
districts. It may be seen from Table II that the total number of deaths report-
ed was 59 equines and 16 bovines and 67 others.

Glanders-Farcy.—There were two cases reported from Karachi. They
were destroyed under the Glanders and Farcy Act.

Surra,—There were 57 cases reported from Sukkur among equines.

Epizootic Lymphangitis.—There were no cases of this disease.

Anthrax.—There were no cases of this disease reported.

Black Quarter.—There were no cases of this disease reported.

Sæmorrhagic Septicæmia was not reported this year.

Foot and Mouth Disease was reported from Sukkur District. There were
260 attacks and 3 deaths.

Rinderpest was not reported.

5.    Preventive Inoculation.—As no cases of Rinderpest, Anthrax, Black
Quarter or Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia were reported during the year, no inocula-
tions against these diseases were performed.

                                          (2) Other Diseases.

6.    There were 13 cases of other contagious diseases reported. Besides
these the Veterinary Assistants treated 1,956 cases while on tour, of which 489
were contagious diseases and 1,452 non-contagious, as compared with a total of
1,545 last year. The total number of cases treated as in- and out-patients by
Veterinary Assistants at their head-quarters is 10,927 as compared with 9,570 in
the preceding year. This gives a total of 12,883 cases treated by Veterinary
Assistants throughout the Province, as against 11,115 last year. The increase
of 1,768 is small and should be improved upon next year.
