38.    Kaira Itinerating Dispensary.—Veterinary Graduate V. D. Patel
was in charge throughout the year. The dispensary was inspected on 28th
August 1907. The total nuber of cases treated during the year was 1,670
as against 987 last year, an increase of 683. Of these 501 cases were for
contagious diseases. Of the total number of cases treated 97 were equines,
1,484) bovines, and 89 others. The Veterinary Graduate collected statistics
in connection with horse breeding, attended outbreaks of rinderpest, Septi-
cœemia Hæmorrhagica, and foot and mouth disease and inoculated 283 animals
against rinderpest and 56 against Septicænia Hæmorrhagica. He also
performed six-post-mortem examinations. The report shows some improvement
over last year.

39.     Godhra Dispensary.—Veterinary Graduate M. 0. Joshi held charge
throughout the year except during the period of his deputation to Bareilly to
undergo the course of instruction in inoculation when Salutri P. B. Mali held
charge. The dispensary was inspected on 27th August 1907. The total
number of cases treated during the year was 610 of which 255 were equines,
294 bovines, and 61 others. The Veterinary Graduate visited 38 villages,
treated 93 animals while on tour, attended outbreaks of contagious diseases and
inoculated 184 animals against rinderprest. In addition to other duties he
treated animals of the Government Farm at Dohad and horses of the Mounted
Police; wrote a pamphlet on rinderpest in Gnjaráti under the Collector's orders.
The cattle population within the radius of five miles of the dispensary is 9,051
and the number of cattle treated is 294, giving a percentage of 3.24. Treatment
is free to all.

40.    Ahmedabad Dispensary.—Veterinary Graduate J. K. Bhat was in
charge till 9th June 1907, when he proceeded on one year's furlough and Veteri-
nary Graduate K. M. Dave held charge till the end of the year. The dispen-
sary was inspected on 28th August 1907. The total number of cases treated at
the dispensary during the year amounted to 4,731 as against 4,650 last year, an
increase of 81. Of these 1,173 were equines, 2,495 bovines, and 1,063 others.
The Veterinary Graduate visited 27 villages and treated 332 animals while on
tour and inoculated 216 animals against rinderpest. He attended the weekly
cattle market, treated the Municipal cattle and horses belonging to the Mounted
Police, visited Government stallions at Ahmedabad once a week and those at
Prántij and Dhandhuka when required; investigated an outbreak of camel
surra at Sadra, and one of horse surra at Ahmedabad. The cattle population
within the radius of five miles of the dispensary is 12,839 and the number of
cattle treated is 2,495, giving a percentage of 19.43. Treatment at this dispen-
sary is free to all.

                        III.—BREEDING OPERATIONS.

                                    (1).—Bovines.

                        (1).—Stud Bulls and their produce.

41.    There are no stock bulls the property of Government in the
Presidency. The Ahmedabad District Local Board maintains 8 bulls and Surat
and Ahmednagar one each. No returns of their produce are available.

42.    The scheme initiated last year for providing stock bulls for villages
in the Ahmednagar District by giving conjoint tagai for the purpose of pur-
chasing bulls approved by the Superintendent, Civil Veterinary, Department,
has proved a success and this year 39 more khillari stock bulls were obtained at
the Mhasvad Pair. This scheme might with advantage be extended to Sholápur,
Sátárá and Poona Districts.

II.—BULL HEARING AND BREEDING FARMS AND DEPOTS.

43.    The Northcote Cattle Farm at Chharodi has been supervised by the
Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, during the year under report.
