ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE INDIAN CIVIL VETERINARY
                DEPARTMENT IN SIND FOR THE OFFICIAL YEAR 1907-1908.

                    GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

During the year under report Mr. K. Hewlett, Superintendent, Indian
Civil Veterinary Department, Bombay Presidency, remained in charge of the
office of Superintendent, Indian Civil Veterinary Department, Sind, Baluchistan
and Rájputána, from 1st April to 24th November 1907 when Major Trydell
took over from him on the forenoon of 25th idem and held it to the end of the year.

2.    Mr. Hewlett, while in charge of the office of Superintendent, Indian
Civil Veterinary Department, Sind, Baluchistan and Rájputána, was unable to
visit the Province. Major Trydell visited all the six dispensaries, toured in
parts of the districts of Hyderabad and Karáchi and attended the Cattle shows
held at Shikárpur, Talhar and Moro. He travelled 2,878 miles by rail and 339
by road during his four months' tenure as against 2,089 miles by rail travelled
last year.

I.—VETERINARY INSTRUCTION—VETERINARY COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS.

3.    There are no Veterinary Colleges or Schools in the Province.

II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASE—(1) CONTAGIOUS DISEASE, OUTBREAKS, MORTALITY,
                                PREVENTIVE INOCULATION, &C.

4.    Reports of outbreaks of contagious diseases have been received from 4
districts as against 4 last year. Table II shows 4 deaths amongst Equines, 221
Bovines and 11 others from contagious diseases.

                                        Equines.

Glanders and Farcy.—There were 2 cases reported from Karachi which
were destroyed under the Glanders and Farcy Act as against 2 destroyed last
year in the same district.

Surra.—One death is reported from Surra in the Sukkur District as against
57 reported from the same district last year.

                                        Bovines.

Rinderpest.—There was an outbreak of rinderpest in Karáchi at the close
of the year and 8 head of cattle are reported to have died from the disease.

Foot and Mouth.—One death occurred in the Naushahro Táluka of the
Hyderabad District as against 3 deaths reported last year.

Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia.—It was reported from Sukkur District and
123 animals died.

Anthrax.—Sixty-one deaths are reported to have occurred under this head
in the Sukkur District.

                                            Others.

Rabies.—Ten deaths are reported in all to have occurred from Rabies
amongst other animals during the year under report as compared to 4 reported
last year.

Surra.—One death has been reported from Surra in camels from Karáchi
District.

5. Preventive inoculations.Vide Table HI, 200 head of cattle were
inoculated for rinderpest in the outbreak at Karachi which occurred at the close
