tural Associations. These shows were organised by the Associations, and held
at Dhárwár, Panvel, Shrigonda. The Ahmednagar and Ahmedabad Cattle
Shows were also revived.

65.    Cattle shows unless held annually and in connection with some
definite scheme for cattle breeding do not do very much good as the interest
aroused is only passing and does not lead to any improvement in the live
stock.

66.    The following is a brief review of the various Shows :—

(1)    Mhaswad Cattle Show.—This show was held in December in
connection with the Nágoba Fair near Mhaswad, Sátára District. The
total number of animals present at the fair was 14,222, of which 6,570
were bovines, 190 equines and 7,462 others. The number of entries for
the show was 292 against 351 last year. This falling off is due to a
definite class list with definite objects in view having been adopted. The
show is instituted with the object of encouraging the breeding of Khillári
cattle and is serving a useful purpose. The breeders show a keen interest.
A scheme for bull distribution on the Ahmednagar lines should be insti-
tuted in this district. The sum of Rs. 700 was awarded in prizes and silver
medals for the best bull and cow in the Show were given and much
appreciated.

(2)    Sholápur Cattle Show.—This show is held in January in con-
nection with the Gadda Pair. The total number of animals present at
the fair was 5,390, of which 4,390 were bovines and 1,500 others. The
number of entries for the show was 359 as against 221 last year. The
increase is due to the great interest taken in the show by Mr. Mountford,
the Collector. This show is also instituted with the object of encouraging
the breeding of Khillári cattle and improving the local stock by grading
them with Killáris. The show is making progress and the people are
taking interest in it. A scheme for providing bulls to the people is under
contemplation. The sum of Rs. 700 was awarded in prizes and silver
medals were given for the best bull and the best cow in the Show.

(3)     The Panvel Show.—This Show was held in December at Pan-
vel, Kolába district, under the suspices of the Panvel Agricultural
Association. It is a new Show but it is proposed to make it an annual
one. There were a fair number of entries for the Show, but only a propor-
tion of them appeared in the ring. The classes also were not suitable.
The sum of Rs. 278 was distributed in prizes. The Show when properly
organised may serve a useful purpose. The sum of Rs. 100 was given
towards the Show funds from this Department.

(4)     The Dhárwár Show.—This was held in February at Dhárwár
under the auspices of the Dhánwár Agricultural Association. It is a new
Show and it is not intended to be an annual one. There were a fair
number of entries but most of the exhibits were working cattle and not
breeding stock. The classes were not suitable. The sum of Rs. 317 was
given in prizes. The results from the Show are likely to be small as it
is not an annual Show. The sum of Rs. 400 was given towards the
show from this department.

(5)     The Ahmednagar Show.—This was held in March at Ahmed-
nagar under the auspices of the Ahmednagar Agricultural Association.
There were a fair number of entries. The sum of Rs. 695 was given in
prizes. The Show is likely to be very successful if organised and conducted
in such a manner as to work in with the breeding scheme in the district.
The sum of Rs. 1,500 were given towards the Show from this deparment
under Government Resolution, Revenue Department, No. 10725, dated 21st
October 1908, but this sum is far in excess of requirements for the Cattle
Show and is largely utilised for the Agricultural section.

(6)     The Shrigonda Show.—This was held at Shrigonda in March
under the local Agricultural Association.
