6.    Of those imported from the Persian Gulf Ports 612 were
animals for the ordinary Bombay market, while others noted were
imported in connection with the movement of troops from the Gulf.

7.    There were four consignments of Queensland horses during
the year under report.

8.    There were 2,893 horses imported under the Live Stock
Importation Act and 2,245 of these were allowed to land after
inspection of their certificates and the remaining 648 were detained
and tested with mallein for Glanders and two having reacted and
one found affected with Surra, were destroyed.

9.    Buildings.—The new Lazaretto which was under construc-
tion was sufficiently advanced to be utilised during the year. It is
hoped that it will be completed within the next year.

10.    The need for a Quarantine Station to cope with the work
under the Live Stock importation Act is very great and it is hoped
that funds will be available shortly for it.

11.    General Remarks.—Khan Saheb Dubash was awarded by
Government the honour of Khan Saheb during the year in recogni-
tion of his long and faithful service in the Department.
