            ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE
               CIVIL VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, SIND,
                                FOR THE YEAR 1922-23.

                            GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

Mr. J. H. Gr. Jerrom, I.V.S., held charge of the office of the
Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Sind and Rajputana,
throughout the year under report in addition to the veterinary
charge of Baluchistan up to 12th November 1922 when it was
placed in charge of a Deputy Superintendent.

He inspected all the Veterinary Dispensaries, Local Board
stallions and premium bulls in the province and when possible
attended outbreaks of epidemic disease. He visited the Willingdon
Cattle Farm and the local Pinjrapoles on several occasions, and,
accompanied by the Health Officer, Karachi Municipality, visited
the Karachi Municipal Slaughter Houses. He attended and judged
the Larkana Pony and Cattle Shows and the Nawabshah Cattle
Show, He also inspected the site for a proposed new dispensary
at Tando Adam, district Nawabshah. He was on tour in Sind for
69 days and travelled 2,827 miles by rail and 1,084 miles by road.
In addition he remained 12 days on tour in Rajputana and travelled
1,892 miles by rail and 39 miles by road ; and in Baluchistan 9 days
on tour, travelling 1,068 miles by rail and 60 miles by road.

2.    Khan Bahadur S. G. Haji held the post of Deputy
Superintendent, C. V. D., Sind, throughout the year. He was on
tour for 87 days and travelled 1,319 miles by rail and 1,202 miles
by road. He attended outbreaks of epidemic disease when possible
and visited the Willingdon Cattle Farm regularly and supervised
its working up to the 12th February 1923 when the Farm was
handed over to the Deputy Director of Agriculture for Animal
Breeding, Poona.

Khan Bahadur S. G. Haji has been allowed a further extension
of service up to 31st March 1924.

                            I.—VETERINARY INSTRUCTION.

3.    There were seven stipendiary students at the Bombay
Veterinary College at the beginning of the year. One passed the
final examination, and the scholarship of another was withdrawn
owing to his failure in examination. Two new scholars were sent
during the year. There were thus seven scholars studying at the
College at the close of the year.

                            II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASE.

4. During the year, outbreaks of contagious disease were
reported from every district in the
province. The total number of deaths
reported was 5,488 against 13,798 last year. These figures cannot
altogether be relied upon as in several instances the disease had
died out before the report was received and in consequence it has
been impossible to ascertain the exact number of deaths.
