                    Equine contagious and infectious disease.

5.    Glanders.— One case of glanders was destroyed in Karachi
and 1 in Hyderabad, under the Glanders and Farcy Act, against
10 horses destroyed in the same districts in the previous year.

6.    Surra.—Twenty-one horses were attacked and all died or
were destroyed under the Glanders and Farcy Act in the Karachi,
Larkana, Sukkur and Upper Sind Frontier districts as against
28 deaths in the previous year.

7.    Anthrax.—One suspicious case of anthrax was reported
from the Upper Sind Frontier district. The animal died some time
before the arrival of the Veterinary Assistant and consequently the
diagnosis could not be confirmed microscopically.

8.    Strangles.—Two horses were attacked and both recovered
under treatment in the Karachi district.

9.    Rabies.—One case was detected and destroyed in the
Karachi district.

10.    Tetanus.—Six horses were attacked and all died in the
Karachi and Hyderabad districts.

                                Bovine contagious disease.

11.    Rinderpest.—Sixty-eight outbreaks of this disease were
reported from the Karachi, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Larkana and
Sukkur districts. Six thousand nine hundred and forty-five
animals were attacked and 4,401 died, as against 26,103 attacks and
12,062 deaths in the previous year. A big outbreak, luckily of a
mild type, occurred in Karachi town but was successfully overcome,
in spite of difficulties of segregation, by protective inoculation with
anti-rinderpest serum. In this connection, Khan Bahadur S. Gr.
Haji, Deputy Superintendent, and Veterinary Assistants 0. S. Gr.
Haji, Abdul Majid, and B. A. Mankad did excellent work.

12. Foot-and-mouth disease.—Sixty outbreaks of the disease
were reported, 2,150 cattle were attacked and 21 died in the Hyder-
abad, Thar Parkar, Sukkur and Upper Sind Frontier districts as
against 666 attacks and 10 deaths in the previous year.

13.    Hœmorrhagic Septicæmia.—Four hundred and three head
of cattle were attacked and 356 died in the Karachi, Thar Parkar,
Nawabshah, Larkana, Sukkur and Upper Sind Frontier districts as
against 266 attacks and 251 deaths in the previous year.

14.    Anthrax.—Three suspicious cases were reported in the
Sukkur district but could not be confirmed as it was impossible to
obtain fresh blood smears for examination.

15.    Rabies.—One case was reported in the Karachi district.
The animal was destroyed.

                Contagious disease among other animals.

16.    Pox.—Three hundred and twenty-nine sheep and goats
were attacked and 53 died in the Hyderabad, Thar Parkar,
Nawabshah, Sukkur and Upper Sind Frontier districts as against
672 attacks and 95 deaths in the previous year.
