            V.—EXPENDITURE OF THE DEPARTMENT.

33.    The expenditure of the department was Rs. 126,753 as
against Rs. 163,489 in the previous year.
The figures of provincial expenditure have
been supplied by the Accountant General and are subject to modifica-
tion in view of the adjustments that may be made in the Final and

under all heads have been supplied by the District Local Boards.

                    VI.—GENERAL REMARKS.

34.    Khan Bahadur S. G. Haji, Deputy Superintendent, Civil
Veterinary Department, Sind, proceeded on leave on March 1st,
preparatory to retirement. The post of Deputy Superintendent has
now been abolished and in its place Government have sanctioned
the appointment of two Inspectors. The two Veterinary Assistant
Surgeons selected were sent, in February 1924, for a course of three
months' training at the Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory.

35.    The reporting of outbreaks of contagious disease still leaves
something to be desired, but consequent upon the introduction of
a monthly post-card system of reporting, there has been a decided
improvement and it is hoped that this will continue.

            PROGRAMME OF WORK FOR 1925-26.

36.    At the request of the Agricultural Adviser to the Govern-
ment of India, the following programme of work for 1925-26 is
included in the Annual Report:—

The energies of the department will be directed towards the
application of modern scientific methods of treatment of disease,
both curative and prophylactic. Horse-breeding will be continued
and, if possible, more stallions provided.

Owing to financial stringency, no programme of further expansion
of the department can be contemplated at present.
