ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE

                BOMBAY VETERINARY COLLEGE

                        FOR THE YEAR 1924-25.

Mr. K. Hewlett, the Principal of the College, held charge through-
out the year under report. Mr. M. H. Sowerby held charge as the
Professor of Veterinary Science upto 31st July 1924 when he
proceeded on 15 months' leave and Mr. V. R. Phadke, the second
Assistant Professor, was appointed to officiate in his place. Khan
Sahibs Dhakmarvala and Shaikh Ahmed and Mr. Miranda continued
to hold charge of their appointments throughout the year.
Mr. K. B. Nair, the Lecturer, was appointed to act as Assistant
Professor in the vacancy caused by Mr. Phadke's acting as Professor
of Veterinary Science.

2.    The Students.—There were 65 students on the rolls at the
beginning of the year. The Annual Professional Examinations were
held in April and 65 students appeared for the examinations and 49
passed successfully. Of the successful students 17 having passed the
Final Examination left the College. There were 16 students
promoted to class C from class B and 16 promoted to class B from
class A. In addition to the above one student in class A was eligible
and appeared for the Supplementary Examination held in December
and having passed was promoted to class B. After having failed 2
students discontinued the course and 2 were unable to continue the
course on account of family circumstances. The number of students
was thus reduced to 44.

3.    In August 1924, 28 new students were admitted to class A
and one old student was readmitted to class B. There were thus
73 students on the rolls at the commencement of the first session.

4.    Of the 28 new students admitted, 22 were natives of the
Bombay Presidency, 2 of Baroda, 1 of Gwalior and 3 of Ceylon.
Of the new students one had passed the first year Arts examination
and 13 the matriculation or school leaving examination. The
remaining students passed the College entrance Test or were other-
wise eligible for admission. The new students classified according
to caste were 15 Brahmins, 2 Marathas, 1 Lingayat, 6 other Hindus,
1 Parsee, and 3 Singhalese.

5.    The results of the Annual and Supplementary Examinations
held during the year were as under.

In the Final year or class C 21 students appeared and 17 passed,
in class B 22 appeared and 16 passed, and in class A. 23 appeared
and 17 passed. The percentages, therefore, this year for the 3
classes were 80.95, 72.72 and 73.91 respectively as against 80.00,
80.00, 80.95 last year and on the total 75.75 as against 80.32 last
year.

6.    Of the 73 students on the rolls at the commencement of the
first session (August) 4 students discontinued the course. Conse-
quently there were 69 students' names on the rolls at the end of the
year as against 65 at the commencement of the year.
