        ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE
            CIVIL VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, SIND,
                            FOR THE YEAR 1932-33.

                       GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S., held charge of the office of Superin-
tendent, Civil Veterinary Department, Sind and Rajputana,
throughout the year under report. He inspected all the Veterinary
Dispensaries in Sind with the exception of Mehar, Umarkot and
Naushaharo Feroz and when possible, attended outbreaks of conta-
gious diseases. He was on tour in Sind for 73 days as against
76 days last year. In addition he remained 9 days on tour in
Rajputana, attended meetings of the Advisory Board and Animal
Husbandry Wing of the Board of Agriculture, held at Delhi in
February, and served as Member of the Board of Examiners at
Bombay Veterinary College.

                        I.—VETERINARY INSTRUCTION.

2.    There were three scholars studying at the Bombay Veterinary
College at the beginning of the year and no new scholar was sent.
Thus only three scholars were studying at the end of the year.

                        II.—TREATMENT OF DISEASE.

3.    Table I.—During the year under report, outbreaks of conta-
gious disease were reported from each district of the province. The
total mortality reported was 12,480 against 29,347 in the previous
year.

                        (i) Equine Contagious Disease.

4.    Surra.—There were 58 cases of Surra reported out of which
35 horses were successfully treated and the remaining 23 died or
were destroyed under the Glanders and Farcy Act, XIII of 1899.

5.    Glanders.—Two cases of Glanders were reported among the
Circus ponies and were destroyed under the Glanders and Farcy
Act, XIII of 1899.

6.    Other contagious diseases.—Fourteen cases of Piroplasmosis,
4 of Strangles, 3 of Rabies were reported of which six died.

                        (ii) Bovine Contagious Disease.

7.    Rinderpest.—There were 490 outbreaks of Rinderpest reported
from all the districts in Sind. 18,468 head of cattle were attacked
and 10,229 died as against 1,205 outbreaks, 53,782 attacks and
27,130 deaths in the previous year. It is gratifying to note that
the disease was brought under control.

8.    Hæmorrhagic Septicæmia.—Forty outbreaks were reported
from all the districts in Sind with 302 attacks and 288 deaths as
against 81 outbreaks, 948 attacks and 868 deaths.
