for 49 days and visited 78 villages. He treated during this period
53 cases, supplied medicines to 15 cases and inoculated 25 animals
in an outbreak of Rinderpest. The administrative control of this
territory having been transferred to the Government of India in
July 1933, at the request of the Agent to the Governor General,
Western India States, the Veterinary Assistant Surgeon was again
deputed to work there from 24th December to the end of the year.
During this period, he was on tour for 74 days, visited 79 villages
and attended 26 outbreaks of Foot and Mouth disease and 20 of
Rinderpest. He inoculated 253 animals with anti-rinderpest serum,
vaccinated 208 animals against Black Quarter, and treated 451 cases
for contagious and non-contagious diseases.

The following table shows the number of cases treated in the
dispensaries in the Presidency Proper during the year under report
and the preceding year:—

There was a fall in the number of cases supplied with medicine for
treatment at home, probably due to the lower incidence of Foot
and Mouth disease.

The average daily attendance at all dispensaries was 20.08.

Cruelty cases.—One thousand and seventy-one cases were sent to
infirmaries under the Act for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals
as against 940 in the preceding year. The majority were sent to
the infirmaries at Ahmedabad, Poona and Ahmednagar.

40.    Buildings.—A new block of buildings for the dispensary
room, office and store-room was constructed by the Bandra Munici-
pality for their Veterinary Dispensary.

            III. SUBORDINATE ESTABLISHMENT.

41.    At the beginning of the year, there were 3 Veterinary
Inspectors, including one doing duty as Personal Assistant to the
Director, and 119 Veterinary Assistant Surgeons employed.
Two Inspectors were working in Revenue Divisions. As pointed
out earlier in this report, the Veterinary Inspector, doing duty as
Personal Assistant, later reverted to district work. Two Veterinary
Assistant Surgeons died, one retired and one was on deputation to
the Dangs. Four recruits were engaged so that at the close of the
year, the staff remained the same.

The Northern Division was converted into a range from
1st September 1933 by the addition of 2 districts from the
Central Division.
