    ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT OF THE CIVIL
          VETERINARY DEPARTMENT, SIND, FOR THE
                                    YEAR 1935-36.

                    GENERAL ADMINISTRATION.

Mr. J. H. G. Jerrom, I.V.S., held charge throughout the year.
He was on tour for 91 days during which period he attended
outbreaks of contagious disease whenever possible and inspected all
the Veterinary Dispensaries, except Matli. He served as a
Member of the Board of Examiners of the Bombay Veterinary
College and acted as Judge at the Jacobabad Horse Show. In
addition, he was on tour in Ajmer-Merwara for 13 days.

2.  Mr. C. S. G. Haji was appointed as Officer in charge, Goat
Virus Producing Station, Karachi, with effect from 18th
November 1935.

                    I. VETERINARY ISTRUCTION.

3.  There was one Veterinary scholar studying at the Bombay
Veterinary College at the beginning of the year, but failed in the
annual examination in April 1935 and the scholarship was
discontinued. Two scholars were sent during the year. There
were thus 2 scholars studying at the close of the year.

                    II. TREATMENT OF DISEASE.

4.  Table I.—Outbreaks of contagious diseases were reported
from all districts of Sind. The total mortality reported was 5,590,
as against 5,428, in the previous year.

                    (i) Equine contagious disease.

5.  Surra.—Sixty-one cases were detected. Of these 14 died
and the remainder were treated with Naganol and as far as can be
ascertained, cured.

6.  Strangles.—There were 41 cases and 4 deaths during
the year.

7.  Piroplasmosis.—Sixty-two cases were reported out of which
7 died and the remaining 55 were successfully treated.

8.  Rabies.—Three animals were attacked and destroyed.

                    (ii) Bovine contagious disease.

9.  Rinderpest.—In 51 outbreaks, 1,881 animals were attacked
and 941 died in, Thar-Parkar, Nawabshah, Sukkur and Larkana
districts, as against 48 outbreaks, 2,152 attacks and 940 deaths in
the previous year.
