until 29th February 1940, when he again proceeded on leave
preparatory to retirement. From 1st to 11th April, I carried out
his duties in addition to my own and Mr. C. N. Desai, Veterinary
Inspector, Northern Range, was appointed to officiate from 12th
April to 30th June and again from 1st March to the end of the
year.

5. Mr. V. N. Kulkarni was on tour for 18 days and travelled
2,024 miles by rail and 286 by road. He inspected five dispensaries
and the building selected for a dispensary to be opened at Saswad
in Poona District.

6. He also attended a Co-ordination meeting at Karwar and
conducted a series of lectures to the training class for Subordinate
Rural Development Officers.

7. Mr. C. N. Desai was on tour for 21 days, travelled 2,015
miles by rail and 187 by road. He visited four districts and
inspected 9 dispensaries.

              II. VETERINARY INSTRUCTION.

                          (By the Principal.)

8.The Staff.—Mr. M. Mohey Deen, M.R.C.V.S., held charge
as Principal of the College throughout the year with the exception
of 17 days in December when he was on leave. During this
period Mr. K. B. Nair, Assistant Professor, was appointed to
officiate for him. There were no other changes in the staff.

9.The Students.—There were 139 students on the first of
April 1939. At the Annual Professional Examinations held in
April, 137 students appeared and 90 passed. Of these, 31 who
passed the final (Diploma) examination left the college and
6 discontinued the course after having failed or for other reasons.
The remaining 102 students continued the course. In June 1939,
48 new students were admitted to class A, thus making a total of
150 students at the beginning of the collegiate year. Of these, 7 left
the college after passing the Supplementary Final (Diploma)
Examination held in October and 5 left subsequently during the
course of the year on acconnt of their inaptitude for the course.
There were thus 138 students at the end of the year as against 139
at the beginning.

10. Of the 48 students admitted in June 1939, 38 were natives
of Bombay Province, 6 were from Sind, 1 from Mangrol, 1 from
Jhalwar, 1 from Bikaner and 1 from Jawhar. One had passed the
B.A. Examination, 2 Intermediate, 12 First Year Arts and 33 the
Matriculation examinations.
