ed for this disease and were given anti-rabic vaccine treat-
ment.

27.   Distemper.—One dog was treated with anti-
distemper serum and 58 were given prophylactic treat-
ment.

28.   Poultry diseases.—28 cases of fowl cholera and
25 of spirochætosis were confirmed microscopically and

29.   Medico-legal cases.—672 [901] medico-legal
cases were conducted by the various officers of the depart-
ment.

                    3.—Hospitals and dispensaries

30.   With a view to provide better facilities for
imparting veterinary aid to livestock owners as many as
100 outlying dispensaries were opened during the year.

31.  The Veterinary Assistant Surgeon on rural up-
lift scheme at Pipariya did useful propaganda work in
that area.

32.   Village uplift training class was held during the
year at Buldana and lectures on cattle diseases, veterinary
hygiene and prevention of cruelty to animals were
delivered.

33.  The number of patients treated and castrations
performed at the veterinary dispensaries of the Province
was 262,697 [244,227]. In addition to this, 8,499 [3,490]
cases not brought to veterinary hospitals were supplied
with medicines. This shows how the veterinary dispen-
saries in this Province continued to enjoy the confidence
of livestock owners. On tour 701,533 [770,382] cases,
including 143,152 [151,073] castrations, were treated by
the staff.

34.   Buildings.—The attention of the local bodies for
better accommodation of veterinary dispensaries was
drawn and I am glad to say that we have got a new hos-
pital building at Betul. Necessary action has been taken
for having dispensary buildings according to the standard
plan at places where work is being carried on at present
in hired buildings.
