                                                                           (ii)

ANNUAL REPORT OF THE MADRAS VETERINARY COLLEGE
                                                       FOR THE YEAR 1911-1912.

I have the honour to submit the Annual Report of the Madras Veterinary
College for the year 1911-1912.

2.   Administration—Throughout the year I have continued to hold the
appointment of Principal. Mr. J. F. Valladares was on furlough during the whole
period ; consequently Mr. H C. Sampath Iyengar, Mr. S. Sankaramurthia Pillai and
Mr. V. Krishnamurthi have acted in the appointments of first, second and third
lecturers, respectively. Mr A. J. Wilson, who was acting House Surgeon last year
reverted for service with the Civil Veterinary Department on 19th August 1911 and
was placed in charge of the Coimbatore Veterinary Hospital. The duties of House
Surgeon were then assumed by Mr. M Sundranathan who continued to act in that
capacity for the remainder of the year.

3.   Selection of candidates.—Owing to the scarcity of suitable candidates, I
succeeded in forming a class of 14 students only, made up of 6 passed and 8 unpassed
men ; of these one did not appear for examination and one left the college because he
was unsuitable.

The selection of students for the year 1912-1913 was made on January the 16th,
l912. From some reason, probably the impression that the scale of pay of the
Veterinary Department was being revised a large number of Matriculates and satis-
factory School Final Certificate holders presented themselves for selection, with the
result that class A as it stands at the end of March 1912 is composed of 14 Matricu-
lates, 8 School Final, one unpassed and two last year's students.

4. Professional examination.—The usual dates for conducting the Professional
Examination are from the 7th of December onwards until finished. This year on
account of the Delhi Durbar it was found necessary to postpone the examinations
until after the Durbar. They were therefore held from the 8th to the 13th of
January 1912 both days inclusive and were conducted by the following officers ;—

                                               President:

Lieut.-Col. J. FARMER, I.C.V.D., Superintendent, Government Cattle
Farm, Hissar.

                                             Members:

1.   Mr. C. W. WILSON, I.C.V.D., Second Superintendent, Civil Veterinary
Department, United Provinces.

2.   Mr. F. WARE, I.C.V.D., Superintendent, Civil Veterinary Department,
Madras.

One student of class A was not allowed to present himself for examination and
two students of class C were absent from college on medical certificate, and did not
appear for examination. The following table shows the results.
