No. 2486, REVENUE, 19TH AUGUST 1912.                            23

Order—No. 2486, Revenue, dated 19th August 1912.

Miscellaneous.

Recorded.

2. The results of the examination
held in January 1912 are noted with satis-
faction. The Government hope that the noticeable improvement in the standard
of educational qulifications of the candidates admitted to the college will be
maintained. The Board attributes the improvement to the increased number of
scholarships sanctioned in November last, but the Government trust that it is also
attributable to a growing interest in the work of the department and to a recognition
of the capabilities it affords for a career of great usefulness to the agricultural popula-
tion.

3. Another satisfactory feature in the report is the large decrease in the
number of deaths from rinderpest. As the staff of itinerating assistants is gradually
increased, it is to be hoped that their assistance will be more readily sought and that
still further improvement will be effected in the reporting of outbreak of contagious
disease.

4. Notwithstanding the   fact that no new veterinary hospitals were opened
during the year, the work   of the Department both in the college and in the
districts shows a satisfactory  advance in many directions on that of the previous
year.
