the greater part of the year owing to the resignation of the Veterinary Assistants,
and no qualified men have been available to fill the. vacant posts. The dis-
pensaries at Dacca and Noakhali are only maintained at present for the treatment
of Municipal cattle. Including the one at Dacca, six dispensaries worked throughout
the year. The total number of in-patients and out-patients treated at dispen-

and a decrease in the number of out-patients treated in the year under report.

                                        III.—BREEDING OPERATIONS.

                                                       1. BOVINES.

22.   At the beginning of the year there were in this province three bulls—the
property of the Government. They were stationed at Shillong, Cachar and Kamrup.
The bull at Kamrup died during the year and the one at Cachar was disposed of in
October 1906, as he was old and useless. The bull at Shillong is a fair specimen of
the Patna breed, and although he is now a very old animal, he is still able to produce
healthy stock. There is one bull in Noakhali and four in Bakarganj which are the
property of the District Boards. With the exception of the small herd at Shillong
no breeding operations are being carried out at present.
